Psalm 30 - reproduction on art poster
Explanation:
Central to this dyptich is a menora (candlestick).
The painting should be 'read' from right to left, as in Hebrew writing.
On the right side is a woman, who has covered her eyes in despair.
It seems as if a sea of flames is threatening to burn her and ashes have covered her clothes.
Without realizing it she is surrounded by the seven-branched menora, which symbolizes the eternally present God.
Despite her despair and mourning God is with her, even though she may not feel him.
On the left side of the painting is a woman in white clothes who is rising from the ash-heap.
She has raised her hands in praise. She also is surrounded by the menora.
On its branches are written: on the right: "My mourning..."
In the middle: "You have changed...."
On the left: "...into joyful dancing.”
Psalm 30
"You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing,
You have taken away my clothes of mourning and clothed me with joy,
that I might sing praises to you and not be silent.
O Lord my God, I will give you thanks forever!"
