Psalm 126 - 'TURNED IN LAUGHTER' - original size 80-100 cm
EXPLANATION
The left hand painting is empty, lonely and sad: central to this theme stands a woman dressed in tears.
In the composition of the painting something is clearly missing.
The woman sows into dry, infertile land.
Cracks are visible in her surroundings and in her very being.
This is a broken-hearted woman trying against all odds to bring
forth good out of the desert of her life.
What does she sow? Faith? Hope?
Thankfulness to God, despite all?
If this was the only picture it would portrait a bleek, hopeless
existence.
Praise God, there is and will be more!
On the second canvas is shown God bringing the miracle of growth
and resulting fruit to a barren land.
Though the cracks are still visible, the young man holds in his arm
the proof of a harvest sown in tears.
About to face the Eternal One his mouth is now turned in laughter
and the sheaf he presents shows no signs of the former
brokeness.
The fruit of faith is perfect and whole.
Psalm 126
When the Lord brought back the captives to Zion, we were like man who dreamed.
Our mouth were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy.
Then it was said among the nations, the Lord has done great
things for them.
The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with
joy.
Restore our fortunes, o Lord, like streams in the Negev.
Those who sow in tears will reap with songs of joy.
He who goes out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them.
